Iorek Byrnison

Iorek Byrnison, the mighty panserbjorne. a character from Philip Pullman's trilogy, His Dark Materials. I absolutely love iorek, so I had to draw him...his armour was a task, all I knew was that it covered only his topside, was rusty and battle-dented, had the lower jaw exposed for biting and slid with his pace. the leather straps are of my own making, I don't think that the true iorek was intended to have those. the v-shaped plates hanging over his limbs are on circular screws beneath, so they swing freely with his stride. the noseplate is dotted with ventilation, and the metal lump over his brow serves to shield his eyes from snow and blood. I hope that his armoured bear opposible[sp?] thumb came out all right.

panserbjorne- armoured bear, polar, to be precise. they have opposible thumbs and are metalworkers, and make their own armour from sky iron that they defend as their soul.
